A Few Basics
The mission of Haddam-Killingworth High school is to provide a personalized and collective experience through which students are challenged to develop the knowledge, skills, and work ethic to contribute to a global society.
GRADING POLICY
Scoring of major writing assignments will be on a nine-point system, based on the College Board standards, and aligned school-wide rubrics for thesis essays.
Scale:
8/9: Exemplary. The work exceeds expectations. Outstanding in every respect.
6/7: Proficient. The work is entirely satisfactory, demonstrating a good grasp of the skills and knowledge expected.
5: Acceptable. Further depth of understanding should be demonstrated, and greater skill used in the work’s execution.
4/3: Needs improvement. Though passing, the work falls short of the expected goal.
2/1: Does not meet standard. The work is seriously deficient in a number of areas.

HOMEWORK
Written homework assignments must be turned on in hard copy on the due date. Lateness will be penalized as follows:
1st day: 5% deduction
2nd day: 20% deduction
3rd day: 35% deduction.
Generally, papers will not be accepted more than three days late.
Alternatives to hard copy (flash drive, e-mail) are not a substitute for hard copy. Electronic submissions must be approved by the teacher prior to the due date.
Students are reminded of the school policies on plagiarism. Students must set up an account on Turnitin.com, which will be used from time to time to verify originality. Failure to upload a paper to Turnitin.com will count as a missed assignment.

Affordable College On Line Another good resource for such areas as academic integrity (plagiarism and how to avoid or prevent it) and also reputable on-line colleges and courses.
